Wonderful! I was in elementary school in the '50's. I'm quite sure we had two recesses a day with little or no direct teacher oversight. I don't recall any significant discipline problems or injury problems as a result. My wife, who was an elementary teacher for many years, learned that when she saw kids' eyes glazing over, she'd get them up and moving, didn't matter doing what, and after a bit they could continue the lesson with less zoning out. Kids need not to be told to sit still for hours and hours: it doesn't work.
Takes me right back. We had morning and afternoon unstructured recess back in the 60's.
